Claire's Corner

Rett Syndrome may have taken away most of Claire's physical abilities and added a host of medical challenges, but it hasn’t touched her vibrant mind or joyful spirit!  Claire is a bright, social, and determined 14-year-old who uses eye gaze and other methods to read, write, and share her thoughts.  She’s involved in school clubs, loves connecting with others, and always has something clever or funny to say. Through Claire's Corner, we hope you get to know more of what’s inside Claire’s mind ~ who is she and what is she thinking? We also hope that through Claire’s Corner, you too can see what is possible, despite a diagnosis that might suggest otherwise.

Blasts From The Past

We've always wanted a way to capture and share Claire's thoughts, and the idea of developing a newsletter originated in 2017. Together with the help of Claire's outpatient occupational and speech therapists, two editions were created. The first one was from 2017, and the second one was during the December 2018/January 2019 timeframe. At this time, Claire communicated through partner assisted scan, picture cards, her yes/no cards and her eye gaze machine.
